Unlocking the education, environmental & community potential of the Farm’s Western site

As an education charity, the Farm provides free open access 7 days a week, local people, families, children, young people and schools to get hands-on, practical experience of farming, food production, animal care, horticulture, wild life areas, craft making with natural products, sustainable practices, cooking, nutrition, healthy eating and healthy living. With over 50,000 visitors a year and a limited site (2.2 acres) it is important for the Farm to keep maintaining and developing its facilities and realising their potential as education and community resources. 3 sides of The Farm’s western site – in all comprising .8 acre – are currently under-developed, under-visited and unwelcoming. The project will develop the Farm’s western site in order to: (i) Enhance visitor experience and involvement (ii) Provide more opportunities for children to learn about farming (iii) Improve hygiene and recycling (iv) Raise animal welfare standards (v) Enable a clearly marked education ‘trail’ of real interest to visitors.
