Update and Provide New Changing and Toilet Facilities, Wombourne Cricket, Tennis and Bowls Club, Dudley

This project will move and update all toilet and changing/shower facilities at Wombourne Cricket, Tennis and Bowls Club.

The aim is to move the male toilets from the existing changing room area and relocate them into the main club house building, then update all the toilet facilities. To redevelop the existing changing/shower rooms to allow for new facilities to include disabled access and allow facilities for a wider diverse group of users including ladies, girls and mix gender groups.

With over 2000 members the facilities provide a place for the whole community to use and enjoy. There is a large function room and separate social area/meeting room. The function room regularly caters for over 120 people and the social room for 50/70 people. There are two changing rooms, plus a shower room and a storage cupboard shared with match officials as their changing area. The male toilets have one urinal and two toilets. The women have just two toilets. The toilets and changing room facilities are tired, dated, very small and not accessible for people with disabilities. Access to the toilets is restrictive, the corridor is small and cramped it barely fits two people yet alone someone who has a disability. The work involves moving the male toilets from out of the sporting changing area and relocating them into the main club area with a new layout to allow for increased toilets, showers, disability toilets, changing facilities, and an umpire room.

The facility will be open to all and will be able accessible to people who want to do less active sports including the elderly, children, and people with disabilities. It will be open for local schools use during agreed days. This is a vital project that will allow more women, girls and disabled people to play sport and take part in community activity. The improvements to the site will be huge and will make a big difference to a community that has a growing population, located close to areas that have deprivation and high obesity levels. Improving the toilets and changing facilities will benefit all the sporting groups, community groups, members and residents who use the building, it will greatly improve the existing facility as the toilets and changing facilities are restricting access and diversity.

Over 300 new houses are due to be built locally. The improvements will provide a huge benefit to the new families that move into the area as well as improving health, anti-social behaviour and isolation. The project will develop a sense of community pride and ownership. Especially working together to build and improve spaces where people can come together, improving the liveability of the neighbourhood. It will provide a good place for interaction with friends or potential friends, enabling more people to use it especially those with a disability or older residents.
