Updating the Community Hall

This is a project to replace roofs, add insulation, upgrade the kitchen, and install LED lighting in the community hall of Himley Road Methodist Church.

The hall was built over 100 years ago and has remained at the heart of the community for all this time. It has had several upgrades and improvements over the years but has now reached a point where more than minor upgrades and work within the church’s maintenance plan are needed in order to ensure the hall remains a thriving community space for many more years to come. Specifically, this project will:

• replace the old, damaged slate roof of the main hall, small hall and side porches, and will include adding a further layer of insulation
• replace the damaged and leaking flat roof over the toilets
• upgrade the kitchen facilities that have been in place for over 20 years
• upgrade the lighting to more efficient LED from 25-year-old fluorescent strip lighting.
The hall is a well-used community space by a wide variety of groups including social groups, exercise, toddler groups (who have been using the hall for over 40 years), uniformed organisations, older adults’ groups, and children with additional needs. There is a waiting list of groups who would like to use the hall, but the current kitchen facilities do not meet a high enough hygiene standard.
