Upper Ray Meadows, Bucks- Wetland Restoration Project

The Upper Ray meadows in Buckinghamshire is a patchwork of rich grassland, floodplain and wetland, well known as a stronghold for wading birds including a small breeding population of locally scarce lapwing, redshank and curlew, who were once common in the English countryside when species rich floodplain meadows were far more extensive.

Gallows Bridge Farm sits within this landscape and this project looks to carry out works to restore the site and surrounding areas to a rich biodiverse habitat and encourage more wading birds to visit, stay and breed and attract in large numbers of overwintering wildfowl and wading birds.

The project will run over 20 months with work carried out depending on seasonal limitations e.g. breeding birds, ground conditions. The project will be managed by Upper Ray Reserves Officer, Chloe Bradford with works being carried out by specialist contractors and supported by BBOWT volunteers, where possible.
