Upper River Ray pollarding

The Upper River Ray is a patchwork of meadows, providing prime floodplain grazing marsh habitat. It is a national BAP priority habitat which attracts many wading birds such as lapwing and curlew. Polarding the willows and other trees maintains the habitat and reduces predation on wading birds by corvids.
