V&A Living Roof Project

This project aims to install a biodiverse roof onto the Victoria and Albert Museum. The roof will specifically be designed to re-create the BAP Priority Habitat Open Mosaic Habitats on Previously Developed Land. This biodiverse green roof will provide habitat for invertebrates within a dense urban area. The habitats created will include wildflower meadows, areas of bare ground, wetland, and invertebrate nesting habitat.

The Buglife Project Officer will pass all data collected to Greenspace Information for Greater London (GIGL) and the RBKC Ecology Service. It is hoped that monitoring of the V&A Living Roof will continue beyond 2013 by staff scientists at the Natural History Museum, but that is in the process of being agreed.

Community engagement – An official launch of the Living Roof will take place at the V&A, and members of the local community will be invited to attend.
