Village Park, Thornaby – Multi Use Games Area

Village Park is a park situated in the heart of Village Ward in Thornaby. The park is 4.5ha in size and serves a population of approximately 5000 people. The park has recently benefitted from the first phase of regeneration, including the installation of a new play area. Shrub areas have recently been removed and a CCTV camera has been installed to improve security in the park. The VPRA have undertaken extensive consultation with local residents to establish what their priorities for the park are, thus establishing the need for improved facilities for young people. A Multi – Use Games Area (MUGA) provides a place where children and young people can play a variety of sports such as cricket, football and basketball in a suitable environment. A MUGA can encourage team working, improve fitness and health, mobility, increase awareness and reduce anti- social behaviour. The MUGA will be located on an existing area of hard standing that is unused and is the area of park in most need of regeneration.
