Walsall Arboretum Improvement Project – Outdoor Gym, Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council

This project is to install an innovative and inclusively designed outdoor gym including 16 items of equipment within Walsall Arboretum, providing free-to-use opportunities for improved physical and mental health for residents, aligning to Walsall’s Council Plan 2025-2029 and ‘We are Walsall 2040’ vision for the borough.

Grant funding will complement the existing gym installation, improving accessibility to people of all abilities, including those with disabilities, through purchasing additional equipment, as itemised. Project development has been driven by community and user-group consultation, ensuring long-term buy-in. The project is part of council-led park improvement initiative, adding value to public assets in a whole-community approach.

The project enhances Walsall Arboretum as a key community asset, encouraging social interaction, increased use of green spaces, and instilling trust through action, all whilst aligning to Council Plan 2025-2029 aim to ‘help our residents feel pride and encourage people to live active healthy lives’’.

The inclusive design, freely accessible to varying abilities, including those with disabilities, ensures a whole-community approach where financial barriers to exercise are removed, aligning with council priority to create a “wellbeing-centred borough”, encouraging healthier lifestyles and reducing health inequalities within the community.
