Warm for Winter

Standbridge Lane Community Development Trust (SLCDT) was established in 2010. The community it serves is dominated by social housing tenants from a number of local housing estates. The building offers a host of meeting rooms, a main hall, quiet room and a large kitchen. As well as being used as a children’s day care centre and boxing club, the building hosts a variety of regular weekly groups including Guides, Zumba, Parkinson’s support, a youth club and a friendship group. The existing heating system is more than 50 years old and has recently been inspected by gas engineers who confirmed that if the system is switched off it is unlikely that the pumps will switch back on; one pump is broken and one is operating at 30% capacity. Biffa Award has been approached to fully fund the project allowing them to replace the pumps, boilers, radiators and a water tank, ensuring the facility remains open and available to the community.
