Washingbay Reedbed Project

This partnership project between Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council and Muintir na Mointeach Community Group involves the establishment of a wetland treatment system at the shore of Lough Neagh (ASSI) to treat the wastewater of the Community Centre currently being built here. Work will consist of a horizontal flow reedbed, followed by an overland flow marsh, leaving the water entering Lough Neagh entirely clean, while at the same time creating an important wildlife habitat based on native plant species present in this area. The reedbed will also act as a demonstration project and educational facility for the wider community aiming to increase local peoples environmental skills and knowledge
