Water Bowl for Wildlife

1. Conduct baseline survey of existing wetland invertebrates and other species prior to work commencing at pond, in line with CCG’s BAP.
2. Clear out the existing pond and replace with fresh pea gravel and peat-free pond growing medium.
3. Remove invasive weed Pygmy Weed (Crassula helmsii) and dispose in bio secure manner, allowing 6 hours for wildlife escape before bagging, drying and burning.
4. Remove banked up earth surrounding the pond structure. Have stone structure assessed by specialist. Repair and replace stones as necessary.
5. Restore the pump so that rainwater circulates and the overflow works. Electrical kit with power wires underground from garden fountain to nearby electrical source.
6. Repair and replace pipes leading to rainwater pond.
7. Involve 32 volunteers in the cleaning, earthworks and planting.
8. Create basking mats for the common lizard from recycled materials.
9. Create a water entry and exit platform ladder for wildlife with natural materials.
10. Feature vegetation of native species such as Iris pseudacorus, Yellow Flag Iris to support plant ecosystem in green corridors with natural planting.
11. Create and install interpretation highlighting the supported habitats and species.
12. Raise awareness of the project and wider biodiversity issues through marketing comms and benches.
• Continue to conserve and enhance the rich biodiversity of the existing green corridor, which stretches from the Walled Garden at Lion’s Gate to the ghost pond on the ocean-side cliff exterior to the Water Bowl of the walled garden to the Bog Garden at Bishop’s Gate.

• Raise awareness of the variety and importance of the area’s biodiversity through events and programming.

• Encourage local ownership and guardianship of the green spaces’ biodiversity through volunteering and community engagement with groups
