Water for Wildlife – Mammals and Wetlands Project

This project is to monitor the status of BAP species Otter, bat species, and dormouse by improving habitats along rivers and adjacent woodland habitat using a volunteer task force to do this. This will be delivered through key areas of work.
Preliminary site visits will be carried out at 6 key sites to determine suitablility and which of the BAP species to focus on.
Volunteers will be recruited through COG and CMG in newsletters and special flyers.
Volunteers will be trained on site to access the habitats for one of more of these key species and to seek field signs of them with identification literature provided.
Materials will be sought to carry out habitat improvements, including building dormouse and bat boxes.
The volunteer task force will carry out habitat management and be shown how to erect boxes or build holts.
Landowners and volunteers will be encouraged to monitor these sites, inluding by using floating rafts.
