Water for Wildlife – River Hayle Restoration Project: Phase I

The River Hayle Restoration Project aims to restore wetland BAP habitats (rivers, open water, reedbed, wet woodland) to facilitate the recovery of a BAP species, the water vole.
Phase I involves:
Water vole research at the project site including desk study of historical water vole information from the site.
Habitat recording / assessments at the project site including identification of threats and comilation of historical habitat information / records from the Environment Records Centre for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
Preparation of nature conservation management plans for the restoration of the BAP habiatats on the project site and the reintroduction of water voles in Phases I and II.
Raising awareness with the local community and engaging key stakeholders.
