Water Voles Project

The water vole is the most rapildy declining mammal in Britain. This species is identified as a priority species in the Fife LBAP.
The two main threats to water vole are habitat loss and predation by mink. This project aims to carry out habitat restoration between two known populations areas of water vole leading to creation of new habitat to allow for expansion of the local population. This project seeks to create a new off line wetland / pond area, protected from distrubance by livestock. In addition trapping and elimination of mink, to reduce a direct threat on water vole populations will also take place.
