Projects / Water Wheel Restoration Phase 2

Water Wheel Restoration Phase 2

To bring the onsite water course into the 21st century by refurbishing the existing water wheel and installing an induction motor hydropower generator. This will allow the Centre to connect the waterwheel to the grid and reduce annual energy costs. Any excess power generated would then be sold back to the grid hopefully allowing the Centre to achieve self-sustainability and improve its green credentials. To support the hydroelectric installation, an exhibition building will be created to demonstrate sustainable energy driven from the water wheel and new platforms and walkways will be built to allow visitors to view the newly refurbished installation.Centre staff will work with the local community during the project to develop and deliver an extensive programme of activities that will engage and educate the local community and visitors. This historic renovation project will use innovative green technologies and traditional methods, a key ethos of the Dean Heritage Centre.
