Waterbeach Baptist Church Windows

The project will complete Phase 2 of essential restoration work at Waterbeach Baptist Church by
replacing 14 damaged and inefficient first-floor windows. The existing 1950s hardwood windows
are rotten, warped and draughty, causing significant heat loss and maintenance issues. To
preserve the building and ensure continued community use, they will be replaced with made-to-
measure hardwood double-glazed units that match the original character of the church.
Professional inspection confirmed that the windows are beyond repair and require full replacement.
This project will protect the future of a historic and much-used community building. Waterbeach
Baptist Church is used not only for worship but also by the local Foodbank, youth activities,
community meetings, social groups and public events. Replacing the windows will improve energy
efficiency, reduce heating costs, prevent further damage to the building and ensure that it remains
a safe, warm and accessible space for community use all year round.
The need for the project has been discussed over several years in open church meetings and with
regular building users. Feedback has consistently highlighted discomfort due to cold draughts and
the poor condition of the windows. In 2019 a building survey gathered comments from
congregation members, community users and hall hirers, confirming strong support for window
replacement. Local groups including the Community Association and Foodbank organisers have
expressed support for the project due to the direct improvement it will make to the comfort and
sustainability of the building.
Waterbeach Baptist Church is used throughout the week by the local community. Current users include Sunday worship services open to all, a weekly Foodbank, youth groups, community support groups, Carers’ Café, private hires, local partnership meetings and seasonal community events. The building is available for public use and hire and is regularly used by residents of all ages for social, practical and community purposes.
