Waverley – River Rother Restoration

The objective of the project is to re-naturalise this stretch of the River Rother to make it more suitable for wildlife and more attractive and accessible for people.
We will install berm features and large wooden structures into the channel to reduce the river width and reinstate a natural flow which will create eddies and riffles where invertebrates and fish can thrive and spawn. The banks will be reprofiled to make them shallower, encouraging riverside vegetation which will provide habitat and improve connectivity with the adjacent floodplains for the birds and mammals which would normally inhabit a river bank and to encourage amphibians.
