Weardale Railway Locomotive Preservation Group

The Weardale Railway Locomotive Preservation Group was established in 1995. It aims to preserve for the benefit of the public, locomotives, coaches and other rolling stock for WRLPG, which may be of historic interest; and to advance education and training for the benefit of the public in railway renovation skills, in particular but not exclusively in coach building skills.
Funding is requested to renovate the Norwood Steam Engine to running order so that they can run it on the newly opened Weardale Railway and any other heritage railway in the North East. Norwood is the last remaining steam engine to work for the NCB in County Durham.
The group is interested in carrying out this work as it will preserve a piece of local history, the last remaining of its kind in the area. This project will also help to educate local people about the local heritage and hopefully get people involved in its preservation.
