West Lavington Village Hall - Dishwasher and Plumbing

There are three key objectives: 1. To replace the antiquated 60-year-old water system to remove the potential dangers from Legionella – identified as a key priority 2. Install a dishwasher to enhance the facilities of the kitchen for all who use it. 3. Upgrade parts of the electrical services to the kitchen and hot water cylinder. The current rooftop located, exposed water tank and ancillary cast iron pipes will be taken out of service, as will an old water cylinder. These will be replaced by a modern direct, unvented pressurised system which will supply hot water for showers for footballers, the basin in the gents’ toilet and the kitchen sinks.
The kitchen has limited space for a dishwasher at present, but by having hot water supplied from a main cylinder to the kitchen will enable the removal of the existing basic kitchen water heater, thereby freeing space for the installation of a commercial dishwasher which will benefit many Hall users (the absence of a dishwasher has been a disincentive to many who would otherwise book the hall for larger parties and meetings).
Electrical works will enable hot water temperature control from the kitchen as well as a regular timed heating of the water to a sufficient temperature to remove the danger from Legionella.
Users of the Hall have long commented on the need for a dishwasher both on hygiene grounds and convenience. Considerable discussion has been had about the dishwasher bearing in mind the space limitations in the kitchen. This project overcomes many of those challenges.
