Westmoor Barn Owl Scheme

To secure and increase the remaining Barn Owl population in the ‘Westmoor’ region by implementing the Barn Owl Species Action Plan (1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 8) in the Devon Biodiversity Action Plan.
Working with landowners at up to 123 historical breeding and roosting sites during the autumn/ winter we aim to maximise the sites’ suitability for the breeding season. We will provide information on habitat management and rodenticide use, erect nestboxes and install floats for water troughs (to help prevent drowning ). Additional site visits will be made during the following breeding seasons to monitor, provide alternative sites and undertake any remedial works.
