Wetland Restoration at Westhay Moor NNR

The project will restore and enhance wetland habitats at Westhay Moor NNR. Managing water-flow and completing scrub clearance and reedbed cutting improve open water habitats, installing piling on the western edge of the mire to provide hydrological security for the newly acquired land, allowing water to be held back to improve habitat conditions. Scrub clearance on site and extensive cutting and management of reedbeds will open channels and create an age structure for reeds to further enhance habitats and improve connectivity and water management across the reserve for the benefit of wildlife.
