Whaley Park Pump Track Resurfacing Project

This project is to resurface with asphalt the existing pump track in Whaley Bridge Park which was installed in 2012. Since this time, the Pump Track has proved to be massively popular. At the time of installation, an asphalt surface for pump tracks was not the industry norm and so the track at Whaley was constructed of hardcore material to create the track obstacles, berms and jumps with the surfacing being Type 1 compacted limestone. It’s popularity over the last 10 years has now shown the limited durability of compacted limestone as a riding surface which is now showing significant wear. This is also now coupled with a change in industry standards to the use of asphalt as a much smoother riding surface to improve the riding experience and safety of users.
