Wharncliffe Gateway – Public Access Improvement

The route, linking Deepcar and Stocksbridge to the Trans Pennine Trail and historic Wharncliffe woodlands and crags needs upgrading to facilitate access by pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders.
Work includes:
Access gates and barriers to discourage unauthorised traffic and fly tippers.
Upgrading to allow permissive use by horse riders.
Formalising access by installing access points whilst restricting inappropriate use by fencing and gating. Landowners will gain access through lockable gates. Pedestrian access will be encouraged by the use of all ability ‘A’ frame access points.
Footpath surfaces repaired, upgraded and raised to prevent future damage through flooding, and drainage installed and 3 benches provided.
Way marking: Consistent and appropriate way marking to be provided, including strengthening signage links to the Trans Pennine Trail.
Not incuded in this submission are complementary proposals to interpret the Wharncliffe site, using other funding.
