Whing Burn – Native Riparian Woodland Planting

This project aims to establish native riparian woodland along Whing Burn on Ulzieside Farm near Sanquhar to benefit black grouse. This will involve fencing and planting 5.24ha with 4660 trees. Utzieside Farm is the site of a black grouse lek which has been dimishing in numbers over the last 6 years. Black grouse use different parts of birch, rowan, hawthorn etc for feeding at different times of the year. This type of woodland is lacking in the area and so the proposed planting scheme could be crucial in aiding the recovery of black grouse
