Whitehead Hall Meadow, Astley Access, Seating and Habitat Management Project

The project is to reinstate a pre-existing path to provide access, on foot and by disabled users in motorised chairs and mums with prams. At the moment this path cannot be accessed by everyone and some people are, effectively, excluded from accessing part of the Meadow. In order to reinstate the path a certain amount of habitat work is needed, such as cutting back trees and shrubs, which have overgrown the pre-existing path. The path itself is so overgrown that walkers are creating a new path to the side of the pre-existing one, which is damaging wild flowers, plants and mosses. The rest of the project is to replace benches along the Meadow paths, these are now over 20 years old and most are rotting. Some benches have had to be removed because they were no longer fit to sit on.
