Wigg Island Visitor Centre – Runcorn

Wigg Island has recently been awarded ‘Local Nature Reserve’ designation and it is proposed to provide a visitor centre building which is sustainable in is design, construction and maintenance. In order to achieve this, the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales were commissioned to write in brief for a suitable ‘green’ building, and architect and engineers were selected on the basis of previous experience of such projects, design flair and deliverability. The building will be designed a landmark structure constructed, where possible, from materials which minimise the impact on the environment. The building will conserve energy, use sustainable energy sources (eg wind, solar energy) and minimise waste.
