Wild and Beautiful Kendal Fell (NW)

We aim to improve the mosaic of habitats on Kendal Fell, and to help improve public access so that everyone can enjoy these inspiring habitats and panoramas. This includes: - clearing saplings which are threatening to destroy rare limestone grassland habitats - enriching amenity grasslands by planting cowslips - erecting bird boxes - repairing dry stone walls around Serpentine Woods which provide shelter for a wide range of plant and animal life, keeping alive this traditional skill and landscape feature, and facilitating future habitat maintenance by providing an effective boundary - repairing derelict benches for use by the public - opening up key views by clearing scrub to encourage public enjoyment of the area - repairing the innovative sculpture trail in Serpentine Woods after vandalism, wear and tear - improving the worst damaged and eroded stretches of the footpath linking Serpentine Woods with the newly restored Greenside limekiln, a key part of Kendal’s heritage
