Wilder Willington Wetlands

We will introduce beavers in to Willington Wetlands. They are a ‘keystone species’ and their niche as wetland engineers has a significant impact on the natural landscape. Beaver activity creates habitats that are dynamic in nature. Beaver activity can provide a wide range of ecological and economic benefits and their activities can result in the formation of wetland habitats, with a positive effect on plant and animal diversity. A recent meta-analysis determined that overall beavers have a positive effect on biodiversity (Stringer & Gaywood, 2016)
