Wildlife Explorers

The new public amenity at Carsington Water Visitor Centre will showcase ecological learning and environmental craft. An interpretation panel explaining wildlife and water habitats will aid the visitor on a self tour of the Wildlife Explorers project site. We plan to create a new marsh habitat and an improved pond wildlife, along with a dipping platform. Over and above the self tours, experienced staff at Derbyshire Wildlife Trust will hold regular sessions for the general public here - they will learn to build bird and bat boxes, otter holts, bug hotels and hedgehog boxes. They will appreciate the in-situ food chains, compare habitat types, learn techniques of surveying, monitoring and species identification. Family based events will have workshops teaching live willow crafts, willow basket making and bush-craft in general. People will learn the art of foraging and respecting ecological systems, and environmental art.
