Wildlife Garden – heathland habitat restoration

The management objectives of the Wildlife Garden are to develop and sustain the growth of plant communities designed to represent examples of semi-natural habitats found in lowland Britain. This project aims to carry out heathland restoration and relocation in order to:
– bring the presentation of heathland up to the standard of other habitats in the Wildlife Garden
– create a more sustainable heathland habitat
– increase biodiversity within the Wildlife Garden by providing suitable habitat for a range of invertebrates and nesting opportunities for birds
– provide a positive resource for learning, for school groups and other visitors
– raise public awareness of the threat to heathland habitats in the UK and the need for the ongoing conservation and the creation of new areas of heathland in the UK
