Wiltshire and Dorset Lowland Calcareous Grassland Habitat Improvement

This project aims to improve Lowland Calcareous Grassland across Wiltshire (50% of the UK total of this habitat) and Dorset through the creation and maintenance of exemplar sites within the chalk downlands, coombes and valleys stretching from the North Wessex Downs AONB through the Salisbury Plain SAC and the Cranbourne Chase AONB to the Dorset AONB. The sites will act as resevoirs of biodiversity interest from which the characteristic species can repopulate more species poor areas of this habitat and help the UK adapt to the impacts of climate change. The project wil directly contribute to Wiltshire, Swindon and Dorset BAP targets, including achieving favourable condition of SSSI's and Wildlife Sites as well as influencing and improving the management of land not directly under our control.
