Wiltshire lowland calcareous grassland improvements

This project aims to improve lowland calcareous grassland across Wiltshire (50% of the UK total of this habit type) through the creation and maintenance of exemplar sites within chalk downlands, coombes and valleys stretching through North Wessex Down AONB, Salisbury Down SAC and Cranbourne Chase AONB. The sites act as a reservoir of biodiversity, interest for many of the characteristic species that can repopulate more species poor areas of this habitat type. The project will directly contribute to Wiltshire and Swindon Borough's BAP targets and will help to achieve a favourable condition of the SSSi' and wildlife sites as well as influencing and improving the management of this land type.
