Wimbledon Common – River Restoration

Approximately 14% of the total length of the Beverley Brook is within Wimbledon Common. Making improvements here will have a significant improvement on the whole of waterbody. With public access along the whole the Common, the project has great potential of engaging the public. The enhancements in Wimbledon Common will look to improve public awareness of river environments and their variability by delivery in-river improvements. This will also enhance the visual amenity, enhance habitat and species diversity, increase natural functioning processes, increase the resilience to climate change and increase geomorphological diversity. The project will focus on restoring natural processes. This will occur as an action of reinstating energy to the river. The site is used as a public green space in a very urban area near the centre of London. These works will engage the public with wildlife, increase usage of the common which will impact on local businesses and increase awareness of the strains rivers are under.
