Windows, Glazing and Masonry Repairs, Church of St Mary, Acton Turville, South Glos

This is a project to make a series of structural repairs to St Mary’s Church in Acton Turville. The present church dates back from the 12th Century, with various additions and changes over the centuries. In July 2014 it was noticed that there were hairline cracks in the stone mullions in the east window of the North Aisle. The Diocesan Surveyor carried out a survey and following his report a specification for the work was prepared. The report stated that cracks were caused by rusting window bars. The repair would involve the removal of the leaded stained glass window and its protective grilles, so that the defective stonework can be replaced. In view of the state of the window, it was advisable to re-lead the glass before replacing it and to renew the existing rusted bars with stainless steel. Concern was also expressed about the rusting grilles and window bars on the east window. The grilles need to be replaced and the bars de-rusted and repainted.
