Winmarleigh Moss Bog Plant Reintroduction

After a decade of restoration, Winmarleigh Moss is the best example of lowland raised bog in Lancashire. The hydrology is now stable and there is a good cover of sphagnum moss that the site is ready for the reintroduction of the next layer of bog plants. White beak sedge, bog asphodel, greater sundew, and oblong-leaved sundew would have been found here but were driven to extinction by historic mismanagement and drainage.
Their reintroduction will boost the site’s biodiverity and ecosystem functionality and lead to a more robust habitat that can better adapt to change.
