Wolverhampton and Staffordshire Canal Corridor Biodiversity Challenge

A two-year project to undertake biodiversity enhancements along a 39 km length of popular canal corridor linking rural Staffordshire and the West Midlands conurbation. The project will focus on 5 identified BAP habitats and aims to benefit over 20 BAP species, linking habitats and creating a continuous corridor for wildlife into the city of Birmingham.
The works will include tree planting, woodland management, improvements to canals and adjoining lakes and ponds, the creation of new reedbeds and hedgerow enhancement throughout the corridor
The physical improvement works will be undertaken through Groundwork Black Country’s established Land Apprentice Programme on an ‘at cost not for profit’ basis. The project will also have a dedicated Environmental Project Officer to oversee the entire project delivery
