Wood Lane habitat enhancements

This project aims to further conserve and enhance the habitats at Wood Lane Nature Reserve for the benefit of wildlife and enhance the public amenity and onsite facilities to improve access for all. The main aims of the project are to:
– Desilt and clear invasive saplings/trees from the wetland habitats to benefit wading birds.
– Improve the woodland base for visiting groups, including replacement of seating and installation of an all weather ‘shade sail’ so that the space can be used by groups throughout the year. There will also be a lockable storage/log store in this area.
– Construction of an all-weather wooden shelter on the ‘island’, to provide additional space for groups and other visitors.
– Improvements to wooden screens with peepholes, for viewing the birds at the site with minimal disturbance.
– Habitat management to enhance biodiversity including controlling invasive species, tree management to create scrub cover, and wetland habitat management.
