Woodhouse Washlands pond restoration

To restore two ponds in a wetland area to preserve their biodiversity value.
The River Rother which runs through the Washlands was artificially straightened some 70 years ago, and the string of ponds represents the river’s original meandering course. They are a rich resource for insects which in turn encourage swallows, swifts, skylarks and less common bird species such a grasshopper warbler and are home to a flourishing amphibian population. Two of the ponds are in danger of drying out, ruining their biodiversity value, and we aim to prevent this.
