Woodland creation- Hairyholes Plantation

This project is part of the Heritage Lottery funded Living Lomond’s Landscape Project. Biodiversity- Into the woods. ‘Hairyhole Plantation’ regeneration scheme. The main aim of this project is to create a Community accessible woodland corridor within the Northern Urban areas of Glenrothes. The 4.3 Ha site is to be deer fenced which will including two pedestrian gates to allow walking access into the site.
At Present this area is unfenced and lies between two existing native Broadleaf Woodlands, and has recently been cleared of Sitka spruce. So the aim of this part of the project is to link into the surrounding woodlands by creating an Integrated broadleaf woodland corridor by replanting with native tree and shrub species which will benefit the Red Squirrel and which will not leave the grey squirrel with a competitive advantage.
