Woodside Library

Woodside Library will be one of the largest translocation projects at the Museum having been taken down ‘brick-by-brick’ from its location in Stourbridge Road, Dudley. It will be a community building rebuilt at the heart of a new 1940s-60s historic town. The library will depict education and children’s lives, social life and the role of local authorities in the Black Country in the 1960s as well as providing space for community activities e.g. Dementia-café style workshops and storytelling, and house the Museum’s own library and archive search facility. Funding has been sought for replacement stonework and bricks owing to poor condition becoming evident on takedown. Due to the seasonality of the build (lime mortar requires temperatures above 5 degrees C), external work will take place over spring/summer 2023.
