Working Wetlands

Working Wetlands will create a Living Landscape in Devon’s Culm grasslands. Our project will re-create, restore and re-connect habitat to form more robust swathes, as called for by the Lawson Report (2010) and Natural Environment White Paper (2011). It will achieve this by delivering direct habitat works on nine DWT nature reserves and neighbouring / connecting landholdings. Practical works to introduce wildlife-friendly grazing and the purchase of specialist machinery (to be used exclusively within the ENTRUST-approved project area) will maximise the project’s effectiveness. All activities to be delivered have previously been approved under DWT project 054093.050 and GrantScape project 341010.195 (delivered between 2007 and 2012). The project now submitted for approval will see the delivery of the same activities extended to additional areas of DWT’s Culm grassland nature reserves and their hinterlands, and is subject to securing a £500,000 Biffa Award Flagship Grant.
