Working Woodlands

This project aims to create a visitor attraction within our site at Offshoots, a demonstration garden within Towneley Park in Burnley. The attraction is a “Working Woodland” zone and work involved in creating this area will include the landscape design of the new area and the inclusion of: • a new charcoal kiln • trees which have self seeded and need to be taken down • trees which are now too large and need to be cut back • decking to be refurbished and purposed as a green wood work area • interpretation with regard to woodland conservation and sustainable wooden products • new totem pole structure made and erected at site entrance to replace original one which has rotted • replace bed edgings • raise levels of some beds including poly tunnel beds to make them more accessible • creation of blacksmith workshop and viewing / interaction area • tool racking and storage • wood work cabin brought back into action We will work with volunteer work parties and groups to accomplish this work.
