Working Woodlands

This project aims to create a visitor attraction within our site at Offshoots, a demonstration garden within Towneley Park in Burnley. The attraction is a “Working Woodland” zone and work involved in creating this area will include the landscape design of the new area and the inclusion of:

• a new charcoal kiln
• trees which have self seeded and need to be taken down
• trees which are now too large and need to be cut back
• decking to be refurbished and purposed as a green wood work area
• interpretation with regard to woodland conservation and sustainable wooden products
• new totem pole structure made and erected at site entrance to replace original one which has rotted
• replace bed edgings
• raise levels of some beds including poly tunnel beds to make them more accessible
• creation of blacksmith workshop and viewing / interaction area
• tool racking and storage
• wood work cabin brought back into action

We will work with volunteer work parties and groups to accomplish this work.
