Worsley Green Heritage Restoration Works

Worsley Green was formerly Worsley Works Yard, and home to workshops associated with the trades of the canal. The site was cleared at the start of the twentieth century, with a model village green created. Today Worsley Green forms part of the Worsley Conservation Area and the centrepiece of the Green is the Worsley Green Monument, a Grade II Listed structure. This project aims to enhance the setting of the Green through:•Restoring the historic fabric of the monument via repairing, re-pointing and replacing damaged stone and brickwork, clearing vegetation growing within the monument and installing a new drainage system;•Decorative flower planting to interpret and delineate the former railway tracks that used to run across the Green;•Installation of an interpretation panel detailing the rich history of Worsley Green;•Clearance of vegetation and self-seeded trees around the sluice gates on the Green to reveal these industrial artefacts
