Projects / Wyke Beck Wet Woodland

Wyke Beck Wet Woodland

We aim to improve connectivity of wet woodland through the Wyke beck valley by digging pools, planting up wet woodland, undertaking in channel flow variations to increase habitat diversity and improve water quality. We will open culverted sections of channel and re-naturalise through marginal planting schemes, whilst also “roughing-up” the landscape to slow surface run-off and prevent further sedimentation.
Wyke Beck supports the UKBAP priority species white-clawed crayfish Austropotamobius pallipes, this project will improve and connect up the available habitat for crayfish and allow its range to expand.
The project will: create 7.2ha wet woodland, restore 110m of culverted river to an open and naturalised channel. In total 6.3ha of connectivity improvements will be made, along a 1.7km stretch of watercourse.
