YEM – Skelton Grange Cutting ‘edge

Cutting ‘ edge at Skelton Grange is a project to work with local volunteers to restore and improve hedgerows and their environs at Skelton Grange nature reserve and community education centre in the Leeds Lower Aire Valley. We propose to coppice & lay hedgerows on the 10 acre site; manage a 2m wide grass ‘buffer zone’ either side of these hedgerows to provide cover and nutrition; create a richer ecological network for associated plant & animal species by managing the woodland habitat adjacent to the project hedgerows; install bird & bat boxes to encourage hedgerow species to settle and flourish; and improve access paths to optimally zone areas to positively manage both biodiversity & public use.
