YEM – Skelton Grange Lost World Woods

The proposed project is for reinstating sustainable management practices to 500m2 of currently neglected woodland at Skelton Grange Environment Centre in Leeds. The project aims to thin and coppice the existing overcrowded and inaccessible area, cut back invasive bramble and create habitat piles with resulting brush and logs. This would support Woodland Habitat Action Plans and enhance Urban Brownfield Mosaic Habitat as identified in Leeds City Council’s updated biodiversity action plans. We anticipate those delivering the project work would be mostly volunteers exchanging skills, knowledge & experience. This supports their role in society and in gaining employment, as well as benefiting the project and the diverse communities we work with.
