Chamber Mead Biodiversity Improvements

This project will divert the lower section of the Green Lanes Stream (GLS) through a publicly accessible meadow before feeding back into the Hogsmill River, a globally rare chalkstream. The GLS is an urban river with very poor water quality and subject to pollution incidents which effects the Hogsmill. The majority of the work are earthworks to create a newly constructed river channel, sediment trap and wetlands. This will be linked with footpaths and bridges.
• Improve the water quality in the receiving Hogsmill River
• Reduce public health risks by improving water quality
• Involve the local community in education, engagement and volunteering
• Improve the visual aspect of the park and amenity which will aid well-being
• Increase biodiversity and habitats in the meadow, wetlands, new channel and Hogsmill River
• Increase the length of chalkstream habitat unimpacted by poor water quality.
The park is heavily used by the public and dog walkers. The project is in council’s Management Plan
