Birchmere Park Woodland Creation Project

Trees for Cities proposes to plant 10,000 trees with volunteers in Birchmere Park, Greenwich. The park is located in a highly deprived area of South Thamesmead with the A2016 along its southern boundary. Planting an appropriate mix of tree species will increase structural diversity of the park flora for the benefit of wildlife and provide a visual and sound barrier between the park and adjacent road.

The park is an important local amenity for many people. We will involve 500 local residents, local businesses and volunteers to plant the trees, which will enhance local interest in using and protecting the park, raise awareness of environmental issues and helps to foster greater cohesion in the local community. We will engage local people in wider community activities such as school workshops, volunteer planting days and training.
