The Lower Irwell Valley intergrated action area was originally a broad flat plain with steep valley sides and rolling open country. The original contours have been mainly obscured by various forms of distrurbance from industrial activity over a long period of time and very little of the pre-industrial activity over a long period of time and very little of the pre-industrial landscape remains. The overall impression is that a severley damaged and fragmented landscape with little character where the quality of the environment has been damaged by industrial activity which has now ceased. We would like to involve the local community in designing art work to complement existing environmental improvements which are taking place and to reflect its history.
