The Holburne Museum Development Project

The Holburne Museum, established 1883, is constrained in every way by its existing building. There is no dedicated space for education in the main building, wholly inadequate exhibition galleries, and the lift does not serve all floors. Since it opened its doors in 1916 the collection has grown over 2,000 objects while years of underinvestment have left the building perilously close to unusable.
Our plans for the development will repair and refurbish the existing building and will provide new space for every area of the Museum’s activities through a striking extension, designed by Eric Parry Architects. The development answers all the pressing needs of the Museum and for the first time will make the building fully accessible to all.
